Ship MONTHLY MARITIME MOSAIC P&O ORIENT LINE • The Peninsular & Orient Steam Navigation Co was founded in 1837 and began UK-Australia sailings in 1852. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, P&O and Orient Line developed regular passenger and mail services between Britain and Australia. The route’s heyday was the 1950s and 1960s, notably following the merger with Orient in 1960, when P&O-Orient Lines boasted the largest passenger fleet outside the North Atlantic, operating many famous ships.
